2007 4pc Gold American Eagle Set NGC MS70
The Gold American Eagle is an official gold bullion coin of the United States Mint. It was first released by the United States Mint in 1986. These coins are .9167 fine gold (22 karat). Gold American Eagle coins are struck using radiant, durable 22K gold, a standard of purity for coinage that was established centuries ago. They contain their stated content in gold plus small amounts of alloy to create more durable and lasting coins, pieces that resist scratching and marring, allowing them to maintain a high degree of luster over time. The Gold American Eagle has sold over 13.5 million ounces during the first 20 years of the program. The quality (GRADE) rating is determined on the Sheldon scale, on which points are deducted from 70 for each flaw or imperfection on a coin's surface. A 70 is thus the highest grade a coin can achieve, with no flaws visible to the unaided eye. The obverse of these coins feature a rendition of Augustus St. Gaudens' full length figure of Lady Liberty with flowing hair, holding a torch in her right hand and olive branch in her left hand. The reverse features a family of eagles with a male carrying an olive branch and flying above the nest of a female eagle and eaglets. The words "In God We Trust", "United States of America" and "E Pluribus Unum" are in scripted.
